The Cheng Huang Temple, also known as the City God Temple, has the highest ranking of all the city god temples in Taiwan. It was founded in 1748, a masterly restored in 1924. Cheng Huang, the city god of justice and the ruler of the under world, is responsible for the judgement of every soul.

There are two stone lions in front of the front gate of the temple,the male one on the left is playing with a ball, while the lioness on the right is holding a cub with both of her claws. Stone lions are usually seen in Chinese temples, because they are meant to protect the temples and the gods inside.

Step into the temple, the exquisite octagonal- spider-web ceiling is right on the top of the building, which was the masterpiece of Wang Isweng, a well known carpenter from Chuan Chou, China. The octagonal-spider-web represents different kinds of people and natural phenomen.
